Savannah Film Festival - Game Night
When a lonely taxi driver happens upon a football field, he falls into a memory of his past.
Interview with Writer/Director/Producer Joel Fendelman
Watch Game Night here:
Congratulations! Why did you make your film?
It was for a UT Grad Film Class as the main purpose but I also would pass by these football fields at night with the large sodium vapor lights and knew I wanted to film something there.
Imagine I’m a member of the audience. Why should I watch this film?
I think you will see a bit of yourself in the character or at least empathize with him. And it’s only 6min.
How do personal and universal themes work in your film?
This is a film that I think all of us thirty years of age and up can relate to. It’s about the optimistic dreams and goals of where we think we will be in life when we get older and the many times sobering disappointment of where we end up. So it personal and universal.
How have the script and film evolved over the course of their development and production?
Well part of the production relied heavily on the real life elements happening on the field. So in the script there were some vague lines of action that I knew would have to be filled in on the field and just hoped that it would work. Also there was a wonderful moment in rehearsal with the actor where he accidentally fell and I decided to use it in the film as the climactic fall.
What type of feedback have you received so far?
It has been very positive so far. People appreciate the nuance of the film allowing them to fill in elements for themselves.
Has the feedback surprised or challenged your point of view?
The feedback has been what I was aiming for, so I feel pretty successful with it.
What are you looking to achieve by having your film more visible on www.wearemovingstories.com?
Too have more exposure for the film.
Who do you need to come on board (producers, sales agents, buyers, distributors, film festival directors, journalists) to amplify this film’s message?
More journalists/publicity would be great.
What type of impact and/or reception would you like this film to have?
At the end of the day, I make films with the hope of showing the underlying connection between us all.
What’s a key question that will help spark a debate or begin a conversation about this film?
Is there anything in your life that you were hoping to accomplish by now but didn’t?
Interview: October 2016
