Congratulations! Why did you make your film?
I made this film because I saw teenagers performing outside of my daily commute on the way home. I thought about how hard it can be for teenagers that identify as transgender and wanted to tell a story based around this idea. I wanted it to be real and personal, and invite the viewer to ask questions as opposed to giving them answers.
Imagine I’m a member of the audience. Why should I watch this film?
You should watch this film because it stars amazing teenager poets who are extremely brave and who wrote all their own poetry for the film.
How do personal and universal themes work in your film?
Personal and universal themes of family and acceptance are huge in the film, and the thread that ties me to it.
How have the script and film evolved over the course of their development and production?
Yes, the script involved a lot because I didn’t know what the poets were going to say until we started filming.
What type of feedback have you received so far?
It has been great!
Has the feedback surprised or challenged your point of view?
As a cisgender white male this was a difficult film for me to make. It made me confront my own privilege.
What are you looking to achieve by having your film more visible on www.wearemovingstories.com?
I’d just like people to view and enjoy the film.
Who do you need to come on board (producers, sales agents, buyers, distributors, film festival directors, journalists) to amplify this film’s message?
The film has sort of run the festival route at this point, which is why I put it online. It has been sold in different territories but someone is more than welcome to come buy it!
What type of impact and/or reception would you like this film to have?
I’d like the film to be a conversation starter between families with transgender teenagers.
What’s a key question that will help spark a debate or begin a conversation about this film?
How do we label each other, and how should we label each other?
What are the key creatives developing or working on now?
I made another short last Fall that will hopefully be on the festival circuit this year. I am working on a feature and commercial work right now.
