Global Impact Film Festival - The Fence
A Short Documentary focusing on the fence in Bandhavgarh Tiger Reserve which has become a symbol of man-animal conflict.
Interview with Writer/Director/Producer Warren Pereira

Congratulations! Why did you make your film?
THE FENCE short film actually came out from working on feature doc called THE BAMERA TIGER. While I was in Bandhavgarh Tiger Reserve I got so affected by the way the fence looked and later by the man-animal conflict it symbolized that I decided to make a short film on it.
Imagine I’m a member of the audience. Why should I watch this film?
I feel like if you feel even minimally interested in the place Wild Tigers have in the world we live in today you should watch THE FENCE.
How do personal and universal themes work in your film?
Personally the idea of focusing on something symbolic like a “fence” to tell a more important, larger, universal story appeals to me.
How have the script and film evolved over the course of their development and production?
The main theme of “man and animal crossing over risk – THE FENCE – for resource has remained the same. I added some technically superior shots – 4K instead of 2K – and some more appropriate coverage to enhance the viewing experience.
What type of feedback have you received so far?
People come out of it feeling liked they watched something important and that is the best kind of feedback for this type of short form doc.
Has the feedback surprised or challenged your point of view?
There are a few people who are critical of the villagers depicted in the film. They wonder and frown at how they would risk their lives and enter a Tiger Reserve to collect firewood. If you knew more about their economic status and their history you would stop wondering and frowning.
What are you looking to achieve by having your film more visible on www.wearemovingstories.com?
I really don’t know for sure since you guys approached me but if provides more exposure for THE FENCE then I am happy.
Who do you need to come on board (producers, sales agents, buyers, distributors, film festival directors, journalists) to amplify this film’s message?
Festival exposure, Awards, Write-Ups, Display in various venues and social media buzz will all help. It is a short so the market for distribution is limited. I do not expect to make the money I spent on making the short to come back to me, but in the rare event I do all profits after Net will go into Tiger Conservation.
What type of impact and/or reception would you like this film to have?
I just want people to more accurately understand the reality of Tiger’s and villagers in Bandhavgarh Tiger Reserve.
What’s a key question that will help spark a debate or begin a conversation about this film?
I think village relocation would spark a debate.
Would you like to add anything else?
Yes, I hope you see THE FENCE at festival or on Vimeo https://vimeo.com/ondemand/thefence
What are the key creatives developing or working on now?
I am working on post of Two Feature Docs – TIGER NUMBER 24 and THE BAMERA TIGER – financing has been a frustrating struggle, and getting enough people to work on it consistently and seriously is just not happening, so I am having to do most of it on my own. But that is the reality of independent filmmaking – it is real hard DIY work!
