Water, the great equalizer.
Interview with Writer/Director/Producer/Editor Elke Duerr
Congratulations! Why did you make your film?
I went to Standing Rock two years ago and realized that we humans do not know who and what water really is. So I made a film about the relationship between humans and water.
Imagine I’m a member of the audience. Why should I watch this film?
You are 76-90% made of water. What we do to the water we do to ourselves.
How do personal and universal themes work in your film?
I am water as well. Water is the great equalizer on this planet. Without it, I would not be here on this planet.
How have the script and film evolved over the course of their development?
Yes, very much so! I realized when I started to pull the footage together that I had been filming water for years! First, it was all about Standing Rock, but that seemed too confined and it developed from there.
What type of feedback have you received so far?
Wonderful feedback! From touching because I feature a baby in the womb to impressive to educational.
Has the feedback surprised or challenged your point of view?
No, and I am looking forward to more feedback.
What are you looking to achieve by having your film more visible on www.wearemovingstories.com?
We are not very kind to our precious Element water. I am hoping that we open our hearts and eyes to who water is and what it does for us.
Who do you need to come on board (producers, sales agents, buyers, distributors, film festival directors, journalists) to amplify this film’s message?
All of the above except producers since the film is completed. The film is brand new and has not premiered yet.
What type of impact and/or reception would you like this film to have?
For every single one of us humans to find their personal relationship to and with water and hence treat her with respect, and tenderness. It is a matter of consciousness. When we wake up and realize that we ARE water, then everything changes. We will not need to fight one another over water rights, clean water and a healthy water landscape.
What’s a key question that will help spark a debate or begin a conversation about this film?
You ARE water! Water and you are ONE! Do you realize that?
Would you like to add anything else?
Thank you for this chance to spread the word about who and what water really is.
What other projects are the key creatives developing or working on now?
A series called Messages from the Animals. Elke Duerr is an interspersed communicator and during her work in the field with the animals (she spends at least 6 months on the ground in a tent each year) she has received many messages from many different animals about coexisting with them. Otter Love which features messages from our sweet water otters, no pun intended is the first episode.
