Amazon Prime: Discover Indie Film 2019 – Fiebre En La Disco
During a Cosmic Disco contest, abducted Disco girls compete on an alien Disco ship.
Interview with Writer/Director Jean-Marie Marbach
Watch Fiebre En La Disco here:
Congratulations! Why did you make your film?
This project was an opportunity to play with Cosmic Disco (a short-lived mix of classic Disco and Science Fiction) and 1960's Sci-Fi references. Given how rare such an opportunity is in this day and age, I couldn't let it pass.
Imagine I’m a member of the audience. Why should I watch this film?
The pitch of this movie is "abducted Disco girls compete on an alien Disco ship". If this doesn't convince you to watch it, I don't know what will.
How have the script and film evolved over the course of their development?
The development was an ongoing shortening process. I started with enough material to fill a feature-length film, but since the production was aiming at a short format, I kept stripping it down to the bare essentials.
What type of feedback have you received so far?
The feedback was either positive or on the puzzled side. People who liked it or were impressed by what was achieved in a single day of shooting were very supportive. The others seemed to keep a "what the hell?" expression, and I'm fine with that too. Being a "what the hell" director is better than no reaction at all.
Has the feedback surprised or challenged your point of view?
The most surprising feedback was from journalists who viewed the setting of my film as a grim dystopian future. That was unexpected to me... I'd consider being abducted on an alien Disco ship as a dream come true.
What are you looking to achieve by having your film more visible on www.wearemovingstories.com?
Widening its audience while discovering other directors. Feeling enthusiasm for other movies and directors is what keeps me going.
What type of impact and/or reception would you like this film to have?
Showing there's a reasonable way of dealing with VFX-intensive projects on indie budgets.
What’s a key question that will help spark a debate or begin a conversation about this film?
How would have Disco evolved if it lasted more than a decade... and was embraced by aliens?
What other projects are the key creatives developing or working on now?
Besides new commissioned music videos and commercials, I'm working on several new scripts with a couple of writers. Staying focused on new projects drives us forward.
