NYC Theatrical Release - Jan 27, 2017: The Age of Consequences
The investigation of climate change impacts on increased resource scarcity, migration and conflict through the lens of US national security and global stability.
Interview with Executive Producer/Director of Outreach Sophie Robinson
Congratulations! Why did you make your film?
We made the film because we wanted to convey a new message about climate change with messengers that might resonate with a new audience outside the typical "climate choir". Our hope is that this messaging will reach conservative audiences and will help environmentalists talk about climate change in new ways.
Imagine I’m a member of the audience. Why should I watch this film?
We are in for a wild ride over the next 50 years. Instability from climate change is one of the major topics that our military is concerned about, so if you care about protecting your future, or the future of younger loved ones, you need to see this film to understand how dire the circumstances are of a warming world.
What type of feedback have you received so far?
We have received incredibly positive feedback from the security community, who are grateful for a more cinematic/sexy way of spreading their talking points. The only criticism comes from the left, that we are too easy on the military - and to that, we say thank you for the compliment! We take pride in being one of the only climate change films that more conservative folks can watch without immediately dismissing it.
Has the feedback surprised or challenged your point of view?
Not especially, but it is exciting, as more liberal filmmakers ourselves, to challenge the left to open their minds to new messaging and ways of talking about climate change that bridge partisan gaps instead of widening them.
What are you looking to achieve by having your film more visible on www.wearemovingstories.com?
We didn't make this film to make millions. We made it to open people's hearts and minds to new stories that change the way we think, feel and communicate about climate change. Each piece of publicity helps us to spread the message far and wide - one which could have incredible implications and significance in a Trump presidency.
Who do you need to come on board (producers, sales agents, buyers, distributors, film festival directors, journalists) to amplify this film’s message?
We need more organizations, climate, security, veteran, renewable energy, and social justice organizations to get behind the film and infuse it into their messaging and operations.
What type of impact and/or reception would you like this film to have?
We would love to see this film have a direct impact on policy change. The security community already understands that climate change is a significant risk- we just need policy makers to make the lead from our military and take climate change as seriously in policy as our military does in planning for future missions.
What’s a key question that will help spark a debate or begin a conversation about this film?
If the military takes climate change very seriously, why doesn't our government? What impact can I, a viewer, have on this situation today?
Would you like to add anything else?
