Congratulations! Why did you make your film?
We made this film to act as an agent for change in the fashion industry in order to help conserve the rivers and waterways on our planet.
Imagine I’m a member of the audience. Why should I watch this film?
Making the film, we learned so much in regards to how our clothing is manufactured and how what we buy is affecting people globally. We also learned about some of the amazing technology and companies out there taking great steps to make a difference in the industry. By watching RiverBlue, audiences will learn about how our clothing is really made and also learn about some of the evolutionary tech that will be the driving force for the future of fashion. Audiences should watch this to know what's going on, and to know what part we pay and can play going forward.
How do personal and universal themes work in your film?
Personal themes of consumerism, looking at what we buy and how much do we really need. Also, caring about people, environment and rivers globally are important themes. Our habits do affect people in other parts of the world and universal themes of environmental protection, human rights, and collaboration for positive change are strong in the film. Each one of us can make a difference.
How have the script and film evolved over the course of their development and production?
There has been much evolution with the script and production. With a documentary, the more you dig the more you learn. The process of RiverBlue has taken over 3 years of interviewing, filming, writing and editing, and in that time finding the most pertinent information to share is the greatest challenge as you want to share it all, which can't be done in 90 minutes.
What type of feedback have you received so far?
The feedback has been amazing. A lot of people first say that they will never buy jeans again, but it's not about not buying jeans. It's really about helping to change the fashion industry to make their products in a more sustainable way. We have been fortunate to receive two best documentary awards and several other nominations and have been busy with festivals across the US, Canada, Australia, New Zealand and India. We are also very grateful for the amount of community screening requests that we have had for the film.
Has the feedback surprised or challenged your point of view?
Perhaps a bit of both. We have been surprised with the limitations some people have due to their connections or ties within the fashion industry.
What are you looking to achieve by having your film more visible on www.wearemovingstories.com?
More awareness about the issues and solutions presented in the film! We also have a sister site, www.yourchoice-yourvoice.com, that is a hub for sustainable fashion. We want to promote the people taking steps in the right directions so if you know of any please reach out to us there. And if there is any interest in having a community screening in your town, please let us know through info@riverbluethemovie.com.
Who do you need to come on board (producers, sales agents, buyers, distributors, film festival directors, journalists) to amplify this film’s message?
Everyone. The more the merrier. We would like to share this message with as many people as possible, perhaps even affect policy change.
What type of impact and/or reception would you like this film to have?
We would love for this film to be the impetus for change in the fashion industry, similar to how a film like FOOD Inc. may have been in the food industry. Once people are aware of what is happening, it is hard for any of us to not try to help change.
What’s a key question that will help spark a debate or begin a conversation about this film?
Can fashion help save the planet?
Would you like to add anything else?
Stay tuned for our Global On-line Release in the spring of 2017. We have an affiliate partner program for that. Anyone interested can email info@riverbluethemovie.com.
What are the key creatives developing or working on now?
We are working steadily on the successful release of this film with some other projects.
Director David McIlvride has been shooting around the world on his new project and Director/Producer Roger Williams is running his company, Inspired Image Picture Company, that supports several projects.
Interview: January 2016
