Congratulations! Why are you making this film?
As a writer, I love writing about things that make people think; that challenge them and open their eyes to what is happening around them. The film illuminates topics of eating disorders, sexuality, drug abuse and family breakdowns. We believe the story of Domenica and Lexie’s intense relationship and their individual struggles needed to be told as a life line for many people out there.
Imagine I’m a member of the audience. Why should I watch this film?
Because it’s a deeply moving story. It’s raw. It’s beautiful. It’s heartbreaking. It will challenge your ideas of socially taboo issues and we are confident this film can make a change in the world.
How do personal and universal themes work in your film?
The story was written and created to spotlight issues of eating disorders, drug addiction, family breakdown, sexuality and peer pressure. By talking about these issues in Who Knew, we allow people to be more open about it and leave them with a sense of hope that whatever struggle you face, you are not alone.
How have the script and film evolved over the course of their development and production?
We are currently raising funds for the production of the film. The script itself has evolved significantly over the course of its development. It has been scaled down to fit a more “modest” budget. Characters have been moulded and improved through professional feedback and read through sessions. Locations have been narrowed down and now play an integral part of the tone and feel of the film.
What type of feedback have you received so far?
“I enjoyed reading this script. I was involved, I think there’s a lot of depth to it, I like that there’s almost two main characters reacting off each other, that’s a feat. The story and the dialogue on the whole read true, which is a great skill as a scriptwriter. There’s a lot working in this script … I look forward to seeing it on screen. The characters are wonderful and really come to life for me. “ – Jedda Bradley, Writer & Script Consultant
The best feedback we’ve received were the reactions from people (within our target audience) who read the script or watched the trailer, and cried as the story touched them personally.
At various read throughs, we've had a mix of people of varied age, gender and sexuality which was excellent because it was found that it was a story that everyone could relate to in some way.
Has the feedback surprised or challenged your point of view?
The crying has surprised me because I’ve read it so often, there’s no surprises left, I know what’s happening so I forget that to those who don’t know it yet, it’s a very real and confronting story.
I’ve found it really interesting hearing people argue about the characters and some of the changes I’ve had to make were a challenge because I felt like I was changing someone very real to me but the changes suggested made sense and helped me understand human nature better.
What are you looking to achieve by having your film more visible on www.wearemovingstories.com?
Our main goal by having our film on your platform is simply to get it out there and have more people aware of the project, even at this early stage. We want people to connect and become involved with Who Knew early on and watch how it involves. Our immediate goal however, is to reach interested parties and point them to our crowd funding campaign which is currently running until 7th July 2016. Check it out here: https://igg.me/at/WhoKnewMovie
Other than that, we’d love to hear from interested cast and crew, casting agents, private investors, related charity organisations, sales agents and/or distribution companies.
Who do you need to come on board (producers, sales agents, buyers, distributors, film festival directors, journalists) to amplify this film’s message?
Sales agents, Distributors, Private Investors, Buyers, Journalists/Bloggers/Influencers.
What type of impact and/or reception would you like this film to have?
We’d like for audiences to have a better understanding of issues young people face and sometimes often hide. We want to create a dialogue between family members, peers, teachers and students to help create the change that’s needed locally, nationally and internationally. We want people to be touched, moved and inspired to make a difference.
What’s a key question that will help spark a debate or begin a conversation about this film?
Why didn’t anyone see the signs? Who Knew?
Would you like to add anything else?
We believe in this film and the difference it can make and we invite you to join in our journey.
